Everything you need to know before installing a mezzanine floor.

Do I need planning permission for a mezzanine floor?
Usually no. A mezzanine is internal alteration, not new build, so planning permission isn't needed. It does need Building Regulations approval covering structure, fire and means of escape. We handle that submission for you as part of the install.
What weight can a GSB mezzanine floor take?
Standard spec is 3.5 kN/m² for storage or workspace, 4.8 kN/m² for picking or light racking. Higher loads engineered on request. Tell us what's going on the floor and we'll spec accordingly.
Do mezzanines need fire protection?
Yes. Any mezzanine over 20 sq m or with more than one storey needs fire-rated protection to the columns and underside. We design to current Building Regulations and liaise with Building Control directly.
How long does a mezzanine take to install?
Design and Building Control approval: 3 to 5 weeks. Install on site: 1 to 3 weeks depending on floor area. Most projects complete inside 8 weeks from first survey to handover.
Can a mezzanine be dismantled if we move site?
Yes. Every GSB mezzanine is bolted, not welded, so it can be dismantled, moved and reinstalled at a new site. Closing the site altogether? We'll buy it back.
